Overview of Services

A facility for biological transformations.

UB’s BioDesign Core Facility (BCF) is one of several Shared Instrumentation Laboratories operated by the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. It comprises an analytical characterization laboratory that provides mass spectrometry, dynamic light scattering and other related services to UB researchers and the greater community with interests in biological transformations. The lab offers full-time PhD-level expert guidance and assistance with all analysis and data interpretations, as well as instrument training and use.

Technical Capabilities include: Biological Sample Preparation, General Mass Spectrometry (Small Molecule Detection), Biological Mass spectrometry and Proteomics. Services encompass molecular weight determination, structural elucidation, and proteomic / metabolomics / lipidomic characterization, as well as particle and molecular size, particle charge and particle concentration measurements.

The BioDesign Core Facility is available for shared use by: UB students, UB faculty, Researchers at other academic institutions, as well as Government and Industry researchers and scientists.
