CAS Chemistry Instrument Center

Overview of Services

The University at Buffalo Chemistry Instrument Center (UBCIC) facilitates research through training and access to specialty core analytical instrumentation. The UBCIC is located on the third floor of the Natural Sciences Complex. The UBCIC offers training programs, shared use of instrumentation, and custom sample analysis for researchers, students, and professionals from UB and the surrounding community.

Center staff is onsite to assist collaborators with method development, sample analysis, training, instrument theory and operation. Analytical capabilities include inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, high resolution/accurate mass analysis, gas chromatography mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography mass spectrometry, thermogravimetric analysis, elemental analysis (C,H,N,S), Fourier transform infra-red analysis, ultraviolet-visible spectral analysis, gas chromatography and liquid chromatography with multiple detectors, and X-ray Diffraction (XRD).

Support for instruments is provided through funding by the National Science Foundation, the UB College of Arts and Sciences, the UB Office of the Vice President for Research, and donations from alumni and professional colleagues. The UBCIC welcomes inquiries at any time at the following email: che-ic@buffalo.edu
