(hide this warning on this page)Opened in 2014, the University at Buffalo’s 5-bay, 1,700 sq. ft. Furnas Hall Materials Characterization Laboratory (MCL) offers an array of instrumentation and capabilities for liquid, powder, film and bulk materials characterization, as well as expert analytical services. It is one of several Shared Instrumentation Laboratories (SIL) operated by UB’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
The facility offers more than 20 analytical tools and instruments providing capabilities in chromatography, metrology, microscopy, spectrometry & spectroscopy, thermal processing and analysis, X-ray diffraction, as well as sample preparation.
A searchable online equipment database (see http://www.buffalo.edu/shared-facilities-equip/facilities-equipment/SearchEquipment.html) helps link users to the state-of-the-art tools that best meet their research, development, testing and evaluation needs.
The Materials Characterization Laboratory is available for shared use by: UB students, UB faculty, Researchers at other academic institutions, as well as Government and Industry researchers and scientists.
Access and hands-on equipment use require completion of an onboarding process; information is available at the following link (Getting started in the Furnas Hall Materials Characterization Laboratory - Science & Engineering Shared Facilities – University at Buffalo - University at Buffalo).
New users will also be required to register with iLab via the following link: Shared Instrumentation Laboratories - Materials Characterization Laboratory
